Megalithic cultures in constitute a significant archaeological phenomenon, distinguished by varied burial practices and monumental stone architecture. These cultures, geographically widespread and spanning from the prehistoric period to the present, demonstrate significant diversity in architecture and have indicative regional characteristics. This session proposes  to bring together participants to investigate the geographical distribution of megalithic sites, focusing on variations in megaliths, construction techniques, symbolic interpretations across different regions, and the challenges of establishing chronologies. The theme also intends to explore the correlation between environmental factors, access to resources, and settlement patterns in shaping the development and location of megalithic monuments, as well as addressing the relationships between megalithic societies and contemporaneous agricultural and metalworking communities, and analysing the impact of these interactions on megalithic cultural development.
