This research explores the connection between stone carvings discovered during archaeological excavations at Wadagokgre, Bhaitbari, in West Garo Hills, and the motifs found in the traditional shawls of the Koch community, known as Sokatharay. The findings indicate that Wadagokgre holds evidence of an early settled civilisation, including structural remains and stone artefacts that reflect its artistic expressions and possible religious influences. By analysing the similarities between these archaeological motifs and the designs in Koch shawls, the study examines continuities in artistic expression and cultural symbolism within the community. It identifies notable parallels in design structure, motifs, and symbolic representations, suggesting that certain artistic traditions have been preserved and adapted over generations. The research links archaeological evidence with contemporary craft practices, emphasising the significance of documenting and preserving indigenous weaving traditions in Northeast India as vital aspects of historical memory, identity, and cultural continuity.
