Contemporary Issues in Rock Art Preservation on the Monkey Cave, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara

The Monkey Cave site is located in Alak, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. This site has one panel of rock art with ten hand stencils. However, the rock art in this region is in danger due to various natural and anthropogenic factors. The aim of this study is to determine a strategy for preserving rock art in the Monkey Cave Site based on the potential threats. The research data was obtained through field observation and literature. The focus of the data collected is rock art and its condition as well as potential threats causing degradation. The results of the analysis then become a basis for designing future conservation strategies that are appropriate to site conditions. Therefore, this study recommends preventive steps in the form of establishing cultural heritage areas, supporting facilities for preservation programs, and developing community.
