The ArkiyoShow: Teaching General Archaeology in the Philippines through Storytelling, Cartoon Characters, and 3D Animation

Animated cartoons have appealed to general audiences for decades. Through animated media, lessons and messages can be communicated effectively and dynamically. Thanks to the accessibility of free and open‑source software that allows for 3D modelling, musical composition, and video editing, such animations can be maximised to create visual stories and engaging dialogue. This makes it possible to deliver information about archaeology that strongly resonates with a substantial portion of today’s tech‑savvy and cartoon‑loving generation. In particular, the incorporation of 3D animation and 3D animated characters in short prerecorded educational videos about archaeology has helped to connect with student audiences of diverse backgrounds effectively and positively. Amidst the rapidly changing world of the internet and AI‑generated imagery and videos, The ArkiyoShow offers glimpses of artist‑created and human‑made 3D animated characters and originally composed music in an epic exploration of general education, dynamic pedagogy, the digitisation of information, cultural heritage, storytelling, humanity, and Philippine archaeology.
