The Asia-Pacific region has been significantly impacted by numerous geopolitical conflicts over the last century, resulting in a tragic loss of life and many servicemen remaining missing-in-action (MIA). Nations involved are now diligently working to recover the remains of these fallen individuals through archaeological methods, with the goal to bring them back to their home countries, honouring the servicemembers, and providing their families with much-needed closures. This vital effort often involves navigating complex logistical, ethical, and legal challenges. This session will focus on discussing various approaches to the systematic recovery and identification of MIA personnel within the Asia-Pacific region. We welcome studies on this topic, including archaeological fieldwork, archaeological spatial analysis, indigenous community engagement, and international laws and policies governing their recovery, identification, and repatriation.
