Shankar Jai Kishan

Nalanda has played a vital role in the field of Buddhism. Many archaeological sites came into light after
archaeological excavations and explorations but these are not enough to shed light on Buddhism in this region. Buddhist archaeology constitutes a critical avenue for understanding the intricate religious, socio-political, and cultural landscapes of the region. The material record – comprising stupas, monastic ensembles, reliquaries, inscriptions, and ritual artefacts – serves as invaluable evidence of Buddhism. The archaeological inheritance is prominently reflecting its resurgence in different periods. Museums occupy a pivotal role as interpreters and custodians of Buddhist heritage. The purpose of the paper in exploring potential sites will reflect new light on Buddhism and also on the impact of many renowned learning centres of the region. Bihar Museum has a large number of collections related to Buddhism which will be very supportive to solve the research problems related to potential sites.
