This study used a thin-section analysis method to figure out characteristics of Quynh Van culture’s pottery, which is in the Noth – Central of Vietnam. Firstly, samples of pottery are sliced, then observed through microscope to determine content and structure of minerals therefore to verify source of material and their role in pottery texture. The analysis results at Con Dat, Thach Lac and Con Cho Moi sites, which belonged to Quynh Van culture, recognised that their main potteries component contained quart, feldspar, ore and auxiliary minerals. The compound and mineral particles ingredient of pottery was stabled; texture’s percentages of background, ‘temper’ or non-plastic, and voids inside the fabric are well controlled to determine the high quality of manufacture level of the potters. In this consequence show the little difference of compound between three sites. Some particularly mineral grains might be locally sourced, however other indicators need to be under specialized survey of geography to confirm exactly about the mineral source to uncover the origin of pointed base pottery.
