Buddhist stupas (tháp) of the Le-Trinh period (17th – 18th centuries) are a distinctive architectural and artistic heritage, yet their value faces numerous challenges in conservation. This paper focuses on two core issues: affirming the unique significance of this monument type and proposing appropriate methods for its conservation and value promotion. In terms of value, Le-Trinh stupas are identified as a crucial transitional link in the history of Vietnamese stupa architecture. They mark a shift from the national-level cosmic symbols of the Ly-Tran period to a more personal and communal commemorative space. This value is clearly manifested through their scale, structure, decorative arts, and inscription systems, profoundly reflecting the historical, social, and religious contexts of the post-medieval period. However, this significance is severely threatened by material degradation, unscientific restoration activities, and detachment from their traditional religious spaces. Therefore, the conservation and promotion of their value require a scientific approach. The paper proposes a holistic conservation strategy, viewing the stupa as an inseparable component of the cultural space of the pagoda (chùa). This method emphasizes ensuring the authenticity of materials and architecture while also maintaining and promoting the religious practices associated with the monument. This is the path for heritage to achieve sustainable vitality in the contemporary context.
