Significant Results of Higham's Fieldwork: A Review

Independent Researcher, Thailand

As Charles Higham's co-director on all his excavations since 1984, I have witnessed many new discoveries and avenues for further research. Burial 15 at Khok Phanom Di for example, revealed the wealth and status of a Neolithic woman. Burials 20/90 and 105/106 at Ban Non Wat initiated our appreciation of Bronze Age elites, while Burial 14 at Noen U-Loke suggested that major social changes were underway in the later Iron Age. In terms of excavation practises, we applied consistently, flotation to recover micro organic remains. This led to my study of the fish remains from all our sites, research that has put our understanding of prehistoric economies onto a strong foundation.
