The Muarajambi enshrinement area is located in the lowlands and aligned with the Batanghari River. Recent landscape studies have shown that the Muarajambi temple area is situated in a wetland landscape, on river terraces and natural embankments. The temples were protected from inundation and flooding in the past by a series of managed waterways. These waterways were constructed between the temples and functioned as drainage channels as well as facilitating local transportation. In the past, people also built ponds near the temples to serve as clean water reservoirs for practical and ritual purposes.
