Iron Age Mortuary Traditions and Grave Goods: Evidence From the Archaeological Site of Phromthin Tai, Central Thailand

Department of Archaeology, Silpakorn University, Thailand

Numerous prehistoric sites have recently been discovered in central Thailand. However, a relatively small number of them have been systemically excavated. Those excavated sites yielded human remains and burials, with associated grave goods. For instance, the late prehistoric site of Phromthin in Lopburi Province excavated by the author produced abundant burials containing a variety of grave goods. In this presentation, I provide preliminary results of qualitative and quantitative analyses of the skeletal remains and grave goods from Phromthin. The outcomes of this research provide a good comparative for inclusion in intra and inter-regional studies of prehistoric mortuary practices in Mainland Southeast Asia.
