IPPA 2022 Professional Paper Prize
The IPPA 2022 Professional Prize is awarded to a professional delegate to recognise excellence and novel research contributions of practitioners and professionals in the field who are attending the 22nd Congress of the Indo-Pacific Prehistory Association.
The best professional presentation award will receive US$500. A certificate of recognition will also be awarded to two participants as runner-up awards.
ELIGIBILITY
The author must be a practitioner, an independent researcher or a professional in the field of archaeology, anthropology, museum and heritage, or any other relevant fields in line with the objectives of the Indo-Pacific Prehistory Association. A submission with co-authors will be allowed with the proviso that the presenter is the lead author, and the research is indicative of the presenter’s own work. The prize is only awarded to the lead author.
This prize is not applicable to anyone whose primary affiliation is with any academic institution (as a faculty, research fellow, research assistant, etc.)
The paper should be submitted according to the general submission procedure of the 22nd IPPA Congress, i.e., meeting the requirements and deadlines announced by the Secretariat and the IPPA 2022 Organizing Committee.
The presenter should select the suitable panel and personally make the oral presentation of the paper during the conference. Non-attendance and having a proxy or a substitute to present will automatically disqualify the entry.
Only papers that are not yet published or presented in other conferences are eligible for this award.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
All presenters who submitted on or before the 15th August 2022 and whose abstracts have been duly accepted may be considered for the prize. An expression of interest to join the competition will be included in the abstract submission form so please ensure that this question is answered to be considered.
To be included for consideration., the presenter must submit the following to the IPPA Secretariat on or before the 15th October 2022, 5pm (GMT+7) with the following:
Title of the Paper
Name and Contact Details of the Presenter (enumerating the co-authors, if applicable)
Institution (if any)
Abstract of the Paper
Text of the presentation/paper not more than 1000 words
Bibliography of works cited
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Scholarly Content (70%)
Technical Quality (35%): includes the clarity and method of the research; factual and informative, ethical use of sources (e.g., appropriately acknowledging all data sources, stating scope and limitations of the research), and well-written (well-constructed and effective use of language).
Relevance (35%): contribution and novelty of the research in terms of new findings or generation of new ideas through the synthesis of existing literature and research
Presentation (30%)
Manner of delivery (10%): Presentation is delivered in a clear and effective manner
Knowledge and preparedness (15%): The slides, images, examples and audio/video materials (if any) were carefully selected to strengthen the overall impact of the paper and the logical sequence of the presentation, questions were properly addressed/answered by the student in a coherent and informed manner
Adherence (5%): The presentation adhered to the guidelines set by the Panel, e.g., presented within the allocated timeframe.
OUTCOME & AWARDING GUIDELINES
IPPA reserves the right not to award any or all of the prizes if submissions lack sufficient overall merit and guidelines were clearly violated.
The winners will be announced and will be presented with their awards during the business meeting / closing dinner on the last day of the conference as part of the closing programme of IPPA 2022.
