This research is laboratory-based to reveal the environmental context and chronology of the "Kangeanian lithic industry". The data used in this research will be collected by excavation at two sites in Kangean using Indonesian government funding. The data consist of charcoal samples, animal bones, shellfish and grain finds. All samples will be sent to the ANU Carbon Dating Laboratory for AMS and stable isotope 18O and 13C analysis. These two analyses are carried out to reveal the dating and environmental context that triggered the emergence of stone tool technology. The results of this research will be published in the form of an article and become part of my doctoral research which focuses on the history of the inhabitation of Kangean Island during the prehistoric period.
