Human Palaeoecology in Mainland Southeast Asia: Evidence From the Tràng An Landscape Complex, Ninh Bình Province, Vietnam

Department of Archaeology, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom

This paper reviews archaeological evidence from six Pleistocene-Holocene archaeological cave and rockshelter sites distributed throughout the Tràng An Landscape Complex of Ninh Bình Province in northern Vietnam. It 1) introduces geochemical raw material sourcing analysis as a novel method for shedding light on hunter-gatherer mobility and landscape use across the Pleistocene-Holocene boundary; 2) provides a technological analysis of lithic assemblages from each site; and 3) places the lithic assemblages from Tràng An within the broader context of similar mainland Southeast Asian archaeological sites.
