In the Sa Huynh culture of central coast Vietnam, the burial tradition of using large ceramic jars as burial coffins was very common and typical. Research on the production techniques of Sa Huynh ceramic jars have been mentioned by researchers, but there has been no specific research on the techniques and production processes in the manufacture of those jars. This research incorporates analyses of the technical traces left on the ceramic jars including thin-section petrography, and TG-DTA differential thermal analysis in order to conduct experimental studies to restore the technique and process of making the Sa Huynh ceramic jars. This paper will also provide an interpretation of pottery production and distribution pattern in the Sa Huynh culture.
